Put this in context please.  You can corrupt just about anything if you 
aren't careful.  Most likely you are referring to globals that are not 
properly mutexed in multi-threaded apps. - two threads attempt to modify 
the same data at the same time (well, not EXACTLY at the same time but 
close) and corrupt the global data.  Data doesn't have to be global in 
that scenario to be corrupted.
