BTW, you always have a choice.  My recommendation is to talk to your 
teacher.  You are now armed with the knowledge that what your teacher is 
teaching you is outdated, obsolete, and useless in this industry.  Ask 
them to let you use modern compiler technology and components for the 
assignments.  If they refuse, you still have plenty of choices.

Do the assignments twice.  Once with modern compiler technology.  Once 
with the ancient Turbo C compiler.  Hand in both for your assignment 
with each clearly labeled.  You'll get a decent grade AND you'll learn 
how to author software correctly.  Your teacher will likely be impressed 
and wonder why you are doing each assignment twice.

If you have parents of the variety who are paying for part/all of 
college, print off and show them this whole online discussion.  Upset 
parents vs. teachers = parents win = you win = a better education.

You need to work hard for the best education you can get.

IIRC, there are several teachers here on c-prog.  Your teacher would 
benefit greatly by joining this group.
