AFAIK, there are no "special DLLs" for any compiler. The issue is typically the Windows registry and, particularly, HKLM. wxDev-C++ is probably worth looking at as the target - fairly smallish compiler vs. VS Express, which is big and bloated. http://digg.com/software/Run_Any_App_from_a_USB_Thumb_Drive Is interesting. I'm thinking they probably have a hook application that watches registry and file system changes made by an app. being installed to the USB thumbdrive and then hooks the main EXE of the target app. so that it can redirect requests for specific registry keys and files to point at the USB thumbdrive. I love the comments on that Digg - clearly the people there aren't imaginative enough/can't read between the lines/aren't programmers. Here's why I know the above is completely doable: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cpp/Symbolic_Links_for_Apps.aspx That's me. I wrote the article and code. It is something worth looking at as well if you _really_ want a modern compiler on a USB thumbdrive (obviously, you'll have to make a bunch of modifications). Detours offers an easy way to mod apps. to get them to do things they weren't designed to do. Basically, it boils down to how badly you want to mess with Windows Hooks. wxDev probably doesn't install any system DLLs, but it probably has a few registry entries. -- Thomas Hruska CubicleSoft President Ph: 517-803-4197 *NEW* MyTaskFocus 1.1 Get on task.
