[c-prog] db connection

Hi all!
I have a question: how can i make a connection with VC++ 9.0 EE to a
mysql database which is not located on the machine where the
application runs, but on an external server? i can do this in php, but
not in c++...
please give me some tips about this, tutorials, examples, sites...
