That totally depends on the way you set up these linked lists and trees. What sort of trees, what sort of links between nodes and parent / child nodes are there; is the linked list a singly linked list or a doubly linked list or a circularly linked list; and so on. If you tell us all necessary details about the actual structures of your linked lists and trees, then we are able to help you. Although I still recommend you ask Wikipedia and read Niklaus Wirth, Algoriths And Data Structures (a classic work, still good but pretty heavy with math), as well as Robert Sedgewick, Algorithms in C / C++ / Pascal / Basic / Java (according to your personal taste).
