I don't think it matters much, there are people who know far more than either of us writing far more sophisticated keyloggers than we are capable of. I doubt anyone would use your keylogger even if you released it. That being said, I do believe that programs such as these will teach you about low level operating system programming and even some language features. Typically they need to be very small, have little to no overhead, and be undetectable. That is the domain of the programmers that write the tiniest, most difficult to understand programs out there. Such as a one-line Perl script that somehow implements a full-featured word processor.
