Hello Dave and welcome to the group.
Pa sounds like nice country, Poconos etc.
I'm in NYC myself.
Your question about a good book is somewhat of a subjective one.
I myself would recommend Effective C++ by Scott Myers because
Myers really is a C++ expert. I'm also a fan of the books written by
Deitel. The Deitel books can run you over $100 if you get them new, so it
might not be a bad idea to explore the web for free computer tutorials and
even free textbooks. However, be careful not to read outdated materials, you
should always look at the copyright date before you buy and/or read any book
on information technology.
C How to program by Deitel, gives you a nice overview of C and then brings
you right into C++.

Good luck and enjoy the group

Nick from  NYC
