Hello,
Basically a mud is just a text-based game that multiple people can  
play; it's really cool for the blind community that gives us something  
we can play, but plenty of sited people play them too. It's a lot  
better than something such as doom, because as I've been told they can  
use their immagenation to picture what the area looks like based on  
descriptions.
