My work with Xalan-C coincided with resurrecting the Xalan-PMC with me becoming the PMC chair for the development activity that culminated with release 1.11.
The advancements of C++/STL templates have deprecated or retired some necessary C++/STL template capabilities for memory management and language transformations. Fixing the STL templates to become compliant with current C++ standards is a significant effort. The ability to update the code foundation to accommodate XSLT/2 needs an infrastructure re-design.
There also needs to be a developer community to support these efforts. Various mentored student projects have not produced enthusiastic support to acquire additional developers to support Xalan-C.
