Yes, you are right. This problem is specific to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I have tested Ubuntu 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04 LTS and it works fine in all of them.
So, as I said before, the Gtk client for v 6.0 will not work over "older" Ubuntu 8.04 LTS version. Notice that Ubuntu 8.04 LTS has updates until April 2011 in desktop version, only4 months after releasing the stable version of OpenERP v 6.0.
