In my understanding, a view type location is only for hierarchical purpose and should never contain physical inventory.
Nevertheless in openerp when you create a picking, you can choose a view type location and assign some stock inside. The same can happen if you assign a view type location to a warehouse that is later automatically set up in the picking when you validate the order.
