Sorry but I have to disagree. It should not obviously reflect it. Manufacturing costing is a lot more complex than just adding a few costs together from raw material and labour inputs. Maybe if you are just assembling a few things it works, but normally you have to deal with machine cycle hours / depreciation component, waste/yield, material tolerances, labour cost vs efficiency, variable and fixed overheads cost vs efficency balanced against predicted volumes. A normal manufacturing cost is standard cost calculated periodically with differences in inputs/volumes and efficiencies put to different variance accounts then allocated over COGS and Inventory (sometimes expenses) and then used as inputs to the next planning cycle. So what you end up with is either a FIFO standard cost, a serialised product cost, or in essence an average of standard costs. So if using average cost I would expect the average of standard costs. Now I wrote it it sounds more complex than it really is - but the point remains you generally don't just measure direct inputs and call that manufacturing cost.
