for sure this should be changed because it is totally confusing
Stock valuation is something happening at each product entry move, stock
variation will be done at the end of fiscal year
So you cannot let it as it is

Hi,
After much confusion with stock accounting settings, I've determined
that the stock variation account, should really be stock valuation
account (at least in English). Now this relates to a property field
property_stock_variation which in turn is used would have all sorts of
impacts if it was changed, but maybe a cheap workaround is just to
rename the label.
If you look in the openerp book, this account is correctly referred to
as Stock Valuation Account on page 266
