proforma invoice is not true invoice but its agreement/commitment to the buyer for product details and costing applied.
So here the date of the proforma invoice is the date of the quotation, not commercial invoice date. So we can not use invoice date to have proforma date as said by Amit Parik. But we can have one more field on invoice "Proforma date" which looks more efficient for invoice context.
