The fact that most packages don't have autoconf encumbrances means that I almost inevitably forget to run autoreconf before building a package, which regularly leads to heartburn on my part.

It seems to me that it would be useful if "build" ran autoreconf if necessary. If this seems sane, I would be happy to cook up a patch. What do people think?
