Just a quick update on this. If I change my http_proxy variable from
wwwcache.lancs.ac.uk to wwwcache3.lancs.ac.uk, this problem doesn't
happen. It seems that somewhere in the haskell code, something is tripping
up by the fact that wwwcache.lancs.ac.uk is actually a round-robin
dispatch (or something...) to other proxy servers.
