Dear support
I've installed cacti version 1.2.10 with an rrdtool version of 1.7.2+ and added about 20 devices to the system. My aim is to monitor part of my LAN backhaul to the internet and remote satellite modems in Kiribati to be able to be alerted when these remote sites go down. Yesterday status of these devices were all up, but then our satellite link went down for a few hours due to maintenance purposes from Kacific satellite networks. When the link came back some of the devices status went to the recovering status and then to the UP while most stayed down, even though I am only using ICMP ping to monitor the status. Since I am monitoring remote sites over the satellite link I decided not to use SNMP and use ICMP ping only since there is no way I could configure the SNMP agent on these remote satellite modems. I am only asking if this process could be automated as in the case of some devices even though there is a ping reply. Please advise and I am quite new to cacti. Thank you for your support and hear from you soon.
