That said, there are not a lot of commits and I don't think we've reached the point of saturation. I strongly believe that any Cactus developer should follow the CVS commits to understand how the project is progressing. As the dev mailing list is for Cactus developers (and anyone else interested) I feel it is ok.
I'm not a Cactus developer, but I do like to follow the dev list, mainly because I might like to help with Cactus v2 at some point. I find the questions and responses (even if they are not appropriate for a "dev" forum) useful. However, the CVS diffs are just noise to me, as I am not involved with coding. I would venture to say that most people who subscribe to the list are in the same category, but again it would only be a problem for people who use Digest Mode (or are too lazy to set up filters).
Also, we need to consider that the "CVS mails" now also includes the Wiki diffs, which has at least doubled the traffic AFAICT. I personally don't have a problem with having everything on a single mailing list, because I can filter the messages to my hearts content. However, in Digest mode the world looks rather different.
Actually, I think the Wiki diffs might ought to stay. They would be more likely to contain some useful info for the casual subscriber than a CVS diff.
In any case, we are acknowledging Chad's comment on the CVS commit emails. He's the first to raise this issue. I'd prefer waiting and see how other react. If there's a strong demand we'll of course implement this.
Let me add a hint for Chad: just use GNAME for reading the list Stay subscribed to Digest mode, so that you can still post.
Sorry, I subscribe to many mailing lists and switch machines often, so plaintext IMAP email (with digest for medium or high volume lists) is the best way I can achieve maximum information throughput in my very finite available time :)
Doesn't really matter, and it's not a big deal - I was just mentioning it to see if anyone else had opinions on it.
Thanks for the feedback, Chad
