Hi,

Just a few words to explain what is the current roadmap for Cactus.

There has been talks on this mailing list about a Cactus v2 proposal. The
idea was to continue with the Cactus v1 releases but at the same time work
on the next major version of Cactus. The idea was to reconcile both
in-container testing with mock objects testing in Cactus v2. However, after
some more thinking and researching on mock objects, it was announced to this
list that 1) we were not sure it was possible and 2) that we needed to
understand better mock objects and how to use them before being able to
propose a unification in term of writing test cases. So the Cactus v2
proposal has been dropped.

At the current time, we are working towards a Cactus v1.2 release, as
described in the Roadmap/todo page
(http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/cactus/todo.html).

We are also working actively on the night build system so that everyone can
easily get packaged versions of Cactus every day, thus incorporating all the
new features, bug corrections, ... to date ! This is currently working for
the Cactus for Servlet API 2.3 distribution. It is still in progress for the
Servlet API 2.2 one. Hopefully it should be working around the beginning of
next week.

Also, we are currently working on updating the web site documentation so
that it is more complete and easier to understand as a lot of you have said
that they have had trouble installing/configuring Cactus at first.

A lot of items have been put on the roadmap for Cactus v1.2. We would like
to know which one you would like to have first so that we can decide on what
to work first. It can also be items that are not curerntly listed but you
think would be interesting to have.

Thanks a lot.
-Vincent
