The actual behavior is based on the stream doing the output, i.e.
PrintWriter, and the platform (UNIX, WINDOWS or MAC) on which it is
resident. I am taking the liberty of cross-posting the four messages from
the JDOM list as they discuss how and why JDOM chose to handle the problem.
