Jack,
Well it all started as a dream, friends, fast bike, mountain roads, sun,
.anyway .boat to Bilbao hit the roads up into the mountains and the roads
are just so perfect for fast motorcycles lots of fast sweeping bends and
slow hair pins ( I need to sort out the difference ).well it was a sunny day
and we had just stopped for lunch and a bit of a rest chill out and look at
the scenery........such beauty.....
the waitress was nice as well ........then back to the roads .I was the
camera bike .video cam mounted on the front of bike ........well things
where going so well .there was 7 of us all having fun I was sweeping in and
out of the pack filming the guys in turn as I moved my way up the field to
catch the lead bike ,I had to go quite fast to catch him up ...so I was flat
out doing about 160 / 170 mph on a straight bit of road...........as I was
not paying attention to the road as much as I should have been due to the
cam trying to get the best shot and all that......I did not see the sign for
bend ahead........so as we approached the crest of a hill I did not slow
down........oooppss bad move .on the other side of the hill at about 200
yards was a 90 left hand bend ...so I hit the brakes and locked up the back
wheel ...this had the effect of making the bike behave like a snake and the
backend was all over the place .......... my speed dropped to about 120mph
and if the back end was not having a mind of its own then with luck I might
have made the turn ...if I could have lost a little more speed.as it was I
decided to go for the drainage ditch.....and take minimal damage ......good
idea me thinks.......................NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The chalk type wall on the far side of the ditch was closer to the
handlebars than I allowed for..........so with that all I remember was
looking up at the clear blue sky with the bike on top of me and
thinking.............get this bike off me and call me a taxi............well
to shorten it a little .... I went to the hospital for some minor cuts and
bruising swollen hand, wrist and arm but the X-rays showed no broken
stuff........and I'm fine ....on the other hand my beloved Kawasaki is in a
Spanish graveyard god bless her ..........lesson learned.next year someone
else is the cam- man ...................as for going fast on the M1 we do (5
points and 185.00 fine.. M3)but the food and weather is crap
