shawn, et. al. - thanx for the pointer yes the result looks like 3965 the getting there are dissimilar. after looking, as best I can, at the present bugs, I dont see the initial problem of pkg install hanging and leaving me with a bashed zfs root.. Im going to try to recreate it early next week, to run some additional diagnostics and will post then, but my first inclination is that there are two issues here the zfs corruption, which could be a vbox issue, and the pkg install hang issue.
