Karen,
Here are some useful semantic validations:
- URL
- slice size - can be unsigned long or "max_size"
- mirror type - "mirror", "raid", "raid1", or "raid2"
- checks for two or more mutually exclusive elements with the same parent
- "one of" - a parent must have one and only one child of a set

Others will arise as the manifest schema changes, but these would
already be useful.
