Rob: I think a bug should be filed to track the request. I had asked the same question and the response is that I have to specify a invalid xml/manifest to stop the AI.
Last time I had to debug an AI install without starting a new install, I had to specify an invalid target device so that it will not wipe out the content of the disk.
