To the OpenSolaris Community, We (Ryan Holden, Danny Pearson, Thea Gab, and Mark Godwin) are a group of students from the Colorado School of Mines who have been working with OpenSolaris Install team to develop a Text-Based Installer for OpenSolaris. Over the course of our six week field session/internship period, we were able to design and implement a functional curses style installer.
We would like to officially announce its availability to the OpenSolaris community. In addition, we offer our extended assistance to anyone interested in helping to further its development. We are all thrilled to have worked on such an engaging and challenging project, and are excited to see its continued advancement in the coming months. Source and documentation are available at: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/caiman/TextInstallerProject/ Additional Notes: The target architecture for this release of the installer is x86. The installer was written in C, and uses the ncurses library. A special thanks to everyone on the OpenSolaris Install team, who has helped to ensure the success of this project.
