I have resolved the problem. It turned out that the T1000 disk which
contained x86.microroot and was used as boot device was formatted
with version of UFS not compatible with the one used for building
x86.microroot (they were from Nevada build 96). After T1000
was installed with Nevada 102, the boot process now works.

To be honest, it is not quite clear to me why this compatibility
problem exists, since I was assuming that booter on disk is
used to read x86.microroot file and booter in x86.microroot
is used to read microroot's content, but I am probably
not aware of all steps involved.
