There have been a number of discussions on these lists about the benefits of the 'new' way of only installing what is required versus the 'old' way of installing everything.

In light of the consensus (at least among the development team) that the 'new' way is better, why is there no way of specifying a minimum number of languages which have support installed by default?

I would guess that English plus one other language would satisfy the requirements of the vast majority of users, so I would like to suggest that as well as the keyboard selection and primary language selection at install time there is another option to install none (or a limited number) of the additional languages.

Similarly, there needs to be provision in AI to do the same thing.

There doesn't appear to be any way to easily remove all the language modules you don't want after installation, other than trolling through several hundred packages and getting the right ones by trial and error.

If only installing what you want and need is the way forward, then it would seem to be a mandatory requirement to be able to install a minimal set of languages.

Surely there is a better way than having dozens of unwanted packages installed and updated on a regular basis.

Cheers
Frank
