How do I set the disk selection without modifying the ai_manifest.xml

I expect there is a way to set this for an individual client, but I
can't see how to do it.
The Flag Day docs have examples of how to convert existing clients,
but no information that I can see on actually setting up a new one
from scratch in 147.
I have setup a new client and successfully booted it with its own
manifest, just not sure how/where to add the disk selection.
Does the sample /usr/share/auto_install/ai_manifest.xml help?
I also found (by accident) that I can just do a boot net:dhcp and the
auto-installer is disabled, allowing me to login and examine the
manifests before the installation starts. I expect this is documented
somewhere but I hadn't seen a reference to it. This is very useful for
troubleshooting.
It's actually in the AI Guide Troubleshooting and FAQ section. See #15
on this page:

That document is actually a little bit out of date. You aren't required
to do step 2 anymore if you don't want to since the manifest-locator
service already puts one in place. You can edit it as you like before
starting the auto-installer service though.
