Thanks Jan. I'll include this in the design update.

Hi Jan -
Thanks for clarifying sysconfig further.
See below for a couple of questions I still have...

- Section 5.1:
* Do we really need this checkpoint? My understanding is that
the sys config project will have a checkpoint that generate many of
the values configured
here as SMF properties which will get consumed at the first boot by
SMF services that will set up the stuff. Among all the things
configured
here, I know that all the user related stuff, and the hostname will
be configured
using SMF services. That only left "lang_locale" and "loc_grubmenu".
I think lang_locale will be configured by SMF too, but not sure.
"loc_grubmenu" probably belong in the BootConfiguration checkpoint,
since
that's related to booting.
I wasn't sure, so I included it for the time being. I'll make sure
to get feedback from that team and determine if I can eliminate it.
Karen is right that most of those tasks will be taken care of by
various smf services:
_configure_user_directory
_set_user_profile
_create_new_user
_set_homedir_map
_set_root_password
_setup_rbac
_setup_sudo
svc:/system/install/config smf service already takes care of those
tasks for AI.
Related changes for Text installer are currently in review along with
SCI tool.
WRT GUI installer, the plan is that switch to the new System
Configuration will
be done as part of GUI->CUD project. I might recommend to check with
Dermot
about the latest plan.
Dermot has been a little distracted lately. :)
Yep. Nice distraction, though :-)
Based on what you are saying, though, I'll remove all of these tasks.
I have sent Dermot email, and I'll follow up.
ok. Thank you.
Once it happens, those ICT tasks could be removed.
_set_nodename
_set_host
Those two tasks will be no longer needed and will disappear once
CR6996436
is addressed.
Ok. I took a look at this RFE. Is there a time line for when this work
will be done? What I'm asking is, I can remove this completely from my
list of ICTs, or do I need to implement a task until that RFE is
implemented.
We have no ETA for this RFE yet. Let me ping Mark Haywood - I will CC you.
Thinking in general about how interim solution might look like, I am
wondering if it might be
feasible to have legacy ICT and new ICT coexisting for a while. I mean
those tasks
which we know will be removed would not be converted to new ICT
framework - they would
remain handled as they are today. Related projects (GUI->CUD, System
Configuration)
would take care of getting rid of them along with old ICT framework as
soon as circumstances
permit (e.g. after underlying dependences get satisfied).
_add_sysidtool_sys_unconfig
All that ICT task currently does is running sysidpm(1m) during first
boot. sysidpm
is to be EOLed and we can get rid of that task once we clarify with
David Brown
how post-install configuration of power management should look like.
Ok. Same question...do I exclude it from my list of tasks or implement
an interim solution?
please see above.
_set_lang_locale
This one is to be removed as well, since locale configuration will be
also done
via smf properties. Support for configuring locale/timezone via smf
properties is
currently work in progress (ETA ~ 162).
Ok. The only one that you haven't commented on is update_dumpadm, so
I'll include that in the checkpoint conversion.
Yep. New SC does not plan to deliver equivalent of update_dumpadm(),
so it will have to be taken care of new ICT.
Thank you,
Jan
