Interesting, then my understanding is flawed :). I was thinking that there would need to be libbe support if /var was on a different dataset because diverging snapshots of that /var dataset would be associated with each BE, so each time a BE is mounted, you'd need to find the associated /var clone and mount that under the BE. I'll take a closer look to see if I'm missing something, then.
