It originally used the makeuuid command (see 18549 in d.o.o), because in
Python 2.4 there wasn't a uuid object. The only aim here is to ensure
that the root archive mounts the matching CD or USB device when multiple
such devices have media loaded; when it doesn't you get strange failures
due to version mismatches. What's there is unique enough for that
purpose and also somewhat descriptive of the image's provenance.
uuid.uuid1 uses similar basis for generating its uuid's, but isn't
descriptive.
