Hi Drew.

I kinda like it :) but...

The two second thing is a nice touch but I'm concerned that there is no "right" delay value. It's clunky to you, but may not be enough time for someone who has special accessibility needs. Before settling on a value I'd check with the accessibility folks.

An alternate approach would be to display a buffer at the bottom that tells the user where they are in their typing. Then both the two second thing and the backspace-reset can be disabled, and the user can backspace through the buffer and retype as desired (like how Firefox search works).

    Thanks,
    Jack

Round 4!

https://cr.opensolaris.org/action/browse/caiman/drewfish/7161344_4/webrev/

The latest webrev now incorporates spelling of words. If you pause for more than 2 seconds between key presses, it reverts back to "first letter" jumping. <backspace> will clear your spelling buffer, allowing you to start over.

I'd really like to have folks play with this a little bit because this is starting to feel clunky (to me, anyway). The 2 second delay seems like *way* too much, but I type fast so I have a poor frame of reference.

Could I get some folks to try this out and give me some feedback?

ssh indiana-build
export PYTHONPATH=/net/mox.us.oracle.com/tank/code/cr_7161344/proto/root_i386-nd/usr/lib/python2.6/vendor-packages
sudo sysconfig create-profile -g location

This will bring up just the timezone screen and won't actually change the timezone on indiana-build.

Thanks!

-Drew

Good afternoon!

I'd like to get some discussion (and a possible code review) for the following CR:

7161344 <http://monaco.us.oracle.com/detail.jsf?cr=7161344> ScrollWindows should support letter jumping

https://cr.opensolaris.org/action/browse/caiman/drewfish/CR_7161344/webrev/

This fix adds the ability for ScrollWindows to *optionally* allow the author to enable "first letter" jumping. I made this optional because users may not want letter jumping for short scroll windows. Before going any further, I wanted to see if folks had issues or concerns with this approach.

If you'd like to try this out do the following:

export PYTHONPATH=/net/mox.us.oracle.com/tank/code/cr_7161344/proto/root_i386-nd/usr/lib/python2.6/vendor-packages
sudo sysconfig create-profile
(don't worry, you're not going to reconfigure your system)
Proceed through the screens until you get to the timezone screen and try the letter jumping.

Once done, simply hit F9 to exit (when you do this, you'll hit another bug with ScrollWindows - it's 7160551 but don't worry about it)

Let me know if you have questions! I'd like to get this in the gate so Seth stops sending me angry email. :)
