| Hi Sanjay, Thanks for the quick response. Customers boxes are SPARC for now, but x86 Solaris is in the plans so they would like to plan for both instances. I was considering offering the boot media approach, but I was under the assumption that after you provide the manifest DHCP is still required to obtain an initial IP (which you can later change).
Customer doesn't want to use DHCP because they have 3 or 4 VLANs per network and want to avoid setting up an AI server in each VLAN. They use Wanboot to bypass Jumpstart multicast so they can extend beyond a subnet.

Hi IPS Experts,
This is an AI question so if I have the wrong address I
apologize I have a quick question from a customer who is in the
process of moving his environment to Solaris 11 (previously S10
w/ Jumpstart + WANboot). He doesn't use DHCP in his environment
at all and is trying to stay away from it. It looks like
Solaris 11 "requires" DHCP to identify new clients. However the
document below states the following: "Although DHCP is used to
identify the system initially, it is also possible to use AI
without having a DHCP infrastructure in place."
I can't find documentation that walks through setting up AI
without DHCP. Are you aware of any documentation or best
practices for AI without DHCP?
Thanks,
Seth
Nope..AI assumes dhcp. Depending on what systems he has, a
alternative is to use the media (AI ISO) and provide an AI
manifest. It would be helpful for us to understand why he does not
want to use dhcp ? Since WANboot was referred, I am assuming that
the custy's boxes are SPARC. Are there linux boxes in the mix ? Are
they installed over the net via kickstart ? If so how is that
achieved ?
