indeed, very strange :-) and if you middle click on the GMenu applet, and then click on cancel or run a command ? I'm under Ubuntu Jaunty, using Compiz. I didn't try with Metacity. I'm sorry to ask a trivial question, but are you sure you run the correct binary ? (you can open the "about" panel, available on right click on the dock, and check the version).
