Yes, it's what I see in the log file and I think it's what you should have: 
this icon is only displayed when printing something, it can be quick (the dock 
doesn't control that).
If you try to print something on a printer which is disconnected, the icon 
should stay visible until the impression (except if you cancel the task before).

  Printer indicator not appear

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS 32bit, updated today, kernel 3.2.0-41.66
  Cairo dock 3.2.1 & Unity disabled, Canon MX328 printer

  Printer indicator didn't appear while printing. 
  I attach dmesg.log while I was printing..maybe it could help you analize.
