If you've installed Ubuntu 12.04 (and not XUbuntu, LUbuntu, etc.,) gnome-session is already installed and used to launch Ubuntu session. In fact you'll have a session like 'Ubuntu' but without Unity. (but if you don't want to use Unity, it's maybe better to launch a Cairo-Dock session). And of course, you can use this 'Default-Panel' theme on any session ;)
