Cairo Dock since a long time now and hence completely forgot about
this,however the bug report in the Xfce's bugzilla already exists and it

  Cairo Dock disappear when changing gtk theme

Status in “xfwm4” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  When I change the gtk theme on Appearance Cairo-dock disappears, in
  other words is no longer visible, but is still running and if I put
  the cursor where is supposed to be it still works (lanuching apps,
  closing session, rigth click and configure etc).
