Thank you olle and nate for your help! The main problem I'm facing since today is the connection from PHP to SQL Server. As nate sugests, I changed the connect key to mssql_connect. I went through the PHP newsgroups and tried many advices, but no luck to create a connection with the extension php_mssql.dll using several versions of ntwdblib.dll on the client side.
With ADOdb I can connect over ODBC or ADO but not with php_mssql.dll. Therefore, we decided to go the traditional way, unfortunately without cake and ORM that could have helped to speed up the development so much. What a pitty.
