The Microsoft Word binary DOC format is crazy. Reading it using PHP is
somewhat of a task. But your question does not formulate anything about
what you want to do with the file or its contents, and how you want it
done (see Resources below).

First off, what platform are you on? If Windows, then the access to the
operating system can help you. If not, then you should head over to
PEAR: http://pear.php.net/ - the closest thing I came with a 10 second
search (which *you* could've done!) is: http://pear.php.net/package/OLE
which promises to read and write OLE objects.

Now, some complaints. You fired off this question in the following

Wow. This Group is concerned with CakePHP, a web development framework,
and is not the right place to ask for help about proprietary binary
file formats. Even if you want to access them using PHP.
