The Aro records are not actually a part of the heirarchy of your users.
 The Aro's sit in a tree that defines a given set of permissions for
each node in the tree.  You can link one or more users to the given
tree node, so that they take on the permissions of that node.

The identification system (aliases) of nodes in the tree was designed
to be flexible, so that it can accomodate multiple types of objects and
records for however you wish to organize your application.  Side note:
For purposes of forward-compatibility, I recommend that you don't use a
/ charater in your node alias.
