Either method is perfectly valid in the context of MVC design. The
primary concern of MVC is the separation of the View tier from the
Controller and Model, and secondarily the separation of the Model from
the Controller.

There is often some cross-over between Controller and Model concerns,
but the overriding priority of the framework itself is "Don't Repeat
Yourself," hence, if a piece of logic more sensibly belongs in one of
the two, or seems more DRY in one place than another, chances are it
belongs there.
