See I do use $this->ModelName->validates, but do not use $uses anymore, it just caused needless headaches.  If you have access to IRC I would try to jump on and be ready to post source and let the bigger heads help you out.  If you post some source in the cakebin < http://cake.php.org/pastes/add>  I'm sure many people would be better able to help you.
