I'm probably going to at least start by doing it your way, because although right now I only have need to check if a user is logged in or not (and have the autologin option of course), later I will be adding a full granular permissions system (which I'm going to develop myself, because at the moment ACL doesn't allow users in multiple groups, which I need).
