As far as a flowchart of graphic, I put one together a while ago, and you can find it here: http://cake.process141.com/files/layers_of_cake.pdf, but it is extremely simplified. I put together another, more detailed version as part of a series of CakePHP "cheatsheets," but it has not been released as yet. Still waiting on a couple more things that need to be put together.
