I would suggest a different approach: create a relationship between your User model and AuthenticationLog (User hasMany AuthenticationLog / AuthenticationLog belongsTo User). Then, create a login( ) method in your User model, and do your login authentication there. Then, if the user is authenticated successfully, create the new AuthenticationLog record in login( ) (the model will be available as $this->AuthenticationLog).
