To make sure it degrades build your entire application in HTML first. Make sure that works. Then, worry about adding in AJAX. So, then you make sure that you add in AJAX to fit the model of HTML working. So, things like it will send the requests directly and return the method whereas in HTML it does a page refresh and a requestaction().
