Has anyone suggested to the poor fellow to check if any of the files he is using has the UTF8 BOM at the start of the file ? Cuz if you're editing any file under UTF8 and your editor, by default, drops the 2 chars of the UTF8 BOM you'll NEVER see it on the display, only way to go at it is either to disable BOM by default or "save as..."
