I got it working finally. This is what I ended up with:
database.php
public $gti = array(
'datasource' => 'GtiSource',
'url' => 'http://swright-dev:1337/'
);
Model
public $useDbConfig = 'gti';
Datasource
filename: GtiSource.php
class : GtiSource
Although the filename: gti_source also works.
