1. If you can't connect to the database how do you expect to pull data from it? 2. You can't expect to get everything for free, sometimes you need to write code. It wouldn't be that hard, as I said, depending on how in depth you want to be.
There are no plugins out there that I know of that do this for you. Try http://plugins.cakephp.org/ Lastly, if you don't want to connect to the database try looking into reading the RSS and pulling the posts from that.
