Cake is about 9Mb - its not very much. You could dump some bits like the console or some other part you aren't using. Not much gain to be made though, and then anybody building your sites with the cms is denied that component.
I hear version 3 will be smaller in terms of file size because of benefits of php 5.4 - but then you will need a host with 5.4, which is probably a trickier requirement than a host with more than say 50mb of space.
